Our philosophy

Hand to Hand Fitness works within each person’s unique capacity for giving and receiving, weaknesses and strengths. Our goal is to help people rebuild into a healthier, stronger version of themselves.

James Vanwert, the principal of Hand to Hand Fitness and Massage, served in the United States Army for 16 years. He is a combat veteran and physical fitness enthusiast with over two decades of teaching experience. He has trained service members and civilians, adults and children, large groups and individuals. He has years of experience competing, cornering fighters and judging competitions. He uses his technical ability in the martial arts / combat sports, various forms of yoga and calisthenics to comprehensively explain how these movements complement each other.
