Hand to Hand Fitness

Hand to Hand (H2H) Fitness offers groundbreaking fitness and self-defense training. Our classes give you the skills, rooted in combat sports and martial arts, to elevate your physical health to any level you choose. When coupled with our licensed massage therapy, H2H Fitness can help propel you down your long term health and wellness journey.

Our classes draw from martial arts, combat sports, calisthenics, and yoga. They are designed to increase stamina, strength and endurance while learning functional fitness and movement drills that can be applied in self defense or daily life. While I have trained, competed, and taught the sport of martial arts/MMA, my area of expertise is applying the philosophy and movement of martial and combat sports to real world situations. When learning a new movement, we will go over its application in an altercation as well as how it might be used to build ease of movement. My goal is that everyone I teach will eventually have the knowledge and ability to continue their physical fitness journey without needing a gym and be able to craft a progam of their own.

Class content will pull from James’s extensive experience in: Submission wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Dutch Cross Kickboxing, Striking for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), The Modern Army Combatives Program and Special Operations Combatives Program and MMA.  

Additional accomplishments:

  • An integral member in the creation and implementation of the first “train the trainer” hand to hand combat program for all Army reservists in Washington State and Idaho
  • Created the hand to hand combat curriculum taught at Fort Bliss, TX that was used for service members deploying to warzones overseas
  • Spent two years as the strength and conditioning coach for the Fort Bliss Texas, Army Competitive Fight Team
  • Was the head hand to hand combat instructor for two major commands in the United States Army
